1. What is Calltrunk?

Calltrunk is simply the best way to record your phone calls and save all those precious words and valuable knowledge from slipping through your fingers.

No matter what device you’re using, Calltrunk can record your conversations and securely store them on the web.

We built it because we felt that the spoken word kind of got left behind in the march of technology. Talking, our most natural form of communication, has fallen between the cracks. And while everyone now has searchable records of written conversations with companies, traders and suppliers, the spoken word allows room for error, uncertainty and dispute.

Our mission is to make the spoken word accountable, verifiable and preservable.

So we created a service that allows you to record phone calls from your smartphone, your landline or Skype.

All the recordings get stored in a secure online account that is called your “Trunk”.

Once your recordings are in your Trunk you can access them anytime, anywhere. And share them via email, download them, sync with other services like Evernote, Box and Dropbox or get them transcribed.

And then you can ARGOsearch them.

2. What is ARGOsearch?

It’s magic. Well it seems like it. Actually it’s a search engine for your phone calls. It indexes the annotations you make during your phone calls, transcriptions (if you ordered any) and other date (like the time and date and the phone number you called). And it indexes the words that were spoken.

Which makes it a totally different form of search than anything else out there.

It’s a way of making sense of thousands of hours of recorded phone calls to get straight to the golden nugget of conversational information you were seeking.

ARGOsearch was launched on 18th April 2012 in the US, UK and Australia. We aim to release it to the rest of the world as soon as possible.

Yes it's legal to record your own conversations. The specific requirements for notification vary from country to country and state to state. For example, US Federal law, English law, Canadian law and the law in most US States requires single party notification.

We recommend it as best practice to inform the other party just to be sure.

You can see what Ofcom, the UK telecoms regulator has to say about it here

Wikipedia also has a page on call recording legality. Check it out here.

Please note that call recording notification legislation is prone to change. While we strive to provide the most current information, always consult a local attorney before recording any phone calls. This information does not constitute legal council.

How do I record a call made to me?

  1. Can I record calls made to me?
  2. Why can't I merge the calls?

1. Can I record calls made to me?

If you're on an iPhone or Android you can pick up the incoming call and then use our on-demand feature in the Calltrunk app (bottom right of the keypad) to get Calltrunk to call you back and then merge the Calltrunk call into your incoming call (just like you'd merge any other calls together using the conference/group calling feature on your phone).

If you're not on an iPhone or Android you can do something similar from our website as long as your telephone allows you to answer and merge a 2nd call into your current call. From the website you can get Calltrunk to call you by only entering the source (i.e. "the number you are calling from") but leave the destination ("the number you are calling") blank.

We are currently beta testing inbound numbers in the US and hope to bring it to the UK soon. Inbound numbers allow you to have a Calltrunk number that anyone can use to reach you and any call to that number will be recorded. Write to support@calltrunk.com if you'd like to take part in the beta program.

Page top

2. Why can't I merge the calls?

There are a few things you need enabled on your network operator to use On Demand to record an incoming call.
First is call waiting and second is 3-way (conference) calling.

Please contact your network operator to make sure both of these are set up on your service.

ARGOsearch

  1. What is ARGOsearch?
  2. What can I search for?
  3. How do I search for the numbers that I called?
  4. How long should I wait before I can find a call?
  5. Do all the words I search for have to be in every result?
  6. Is ARGOsearch available worldwide?
  7. I can't find a word, is the spelling different?
  8. How come ARGOsearch doesn't always find words that are perfectly clear?

Page top

2. What can I search for?

With ARGOsearch you can search for words spoken in your conversation and words written in your notes, as well as the numbers you called or called from. The date/time of the call and the type of call that it was.

Page top

3. How do I search for the numbers that I called?

You can type in 3 digits or more to search through the number you called or called from.

The results will tell you where the search terms were found.

With less than 3 digits, ARGOsearch will look for words spoken in your conversation. Like a number 5(five) or 10(ten).

Page top

4. How long should I wait before I can find a call?

General rule of thumb is "as long as the call takes", but we have built some awesome technology to speed things up. You'll see when a call is indexed by the status icon - vertical bars in a triangle shape.

Sometimes, if the background noise is bad, we can't index the spoken words, but don't worry because you'll still be able to find it by the date/time, phone numbers, notes and type of call.

Page top

5. Do all the words I search for have to be in every result?

By default all words should be in every result. However, it's possible to search for one word *or* another.

To do that you need to use "^" between each word like this: "carrot ^ banana".

Page top

6. Is ARGOsearch available worldwide?

No, only in US, UK and Australia.

Page top

7. I can't find a word, is the spelling different?

Please note that we use an American dictionary, so all spelling should be American.

Affected words will be words like, color and favorite, magazine and jail.

Page top

8. How come ARGOsearch doesn't always find words that are perfectly clear?

ARGOsearch uses computers to find the words. This is one of those areas in which computers still aren't quite as good as humans! All sorts of things can confuse our word finder, background noise and poor line quality being the most common culprits.

Also ARGOsearch can only find what's in its dictionary. We haven't taught it much slang yet, and we're still working on proper nouns!.

Remember, we're in beta. It'll just get better from here.

Page top

3. How do I record a SkypeOut call?

To begin, go to Skype on your PC and call the Calltrunk Robot from your list of contacts. You can test this by leaving yourself a message, & the recording will show in your Calltrunk account as a Skype call.

When you are ready to record a call with someone else, you should call the Robot first & then add another contact to the call to make it a conference call. As long as Calltrunk Robot is on the call, it will be recorded. If you hang up on the Robot, the call will stop being recorded, but you can still continue the call with the other party.

You can also start a call with a contact first, and then add the Calltrunk Robot to the call to make it a conference. The call will be recorded from the time the Robot is added. Be sure to wait a few seconds after bringing in the Robot to ensure recording has started.

Page top

6. Can I record Skype calls with my mobile app?

Not yet, but this feature is coming. If you sign up, we will let you know when it's ready, as we are currently working on this.
